Engine Overheating
1. Check coolant level in radiator.
2. Check condition of coolant for contamination, ratio of anti-freeze to water, and leakage of oil into coolant.
3. Check for leakage in hoses, and clamps.
4. Check water pump and thermostat housing for leakage.
5. Check for damaged cylinder head gasket.
6. Check fan belt tension. Deflection of fan belt should be no more than .4 inch.
7. Check operation of fan clutch.
8. Check for proper operation of radiator cap.
9. Check thermostat operation. Thermostat opening temperature is 180° F.
10. Check injection timing.
11. Check condition of water pump impeller.
12. Check to ensure proper level of engine oil.
13. Replace or readjust setting of injection pump.
