Refer to accompanying image of exploded view to identify transmission components.




1. With transmission in a vertical position, drive roll pin out and remove shifter shaft lever assembly.




2. Using tools J-25295 and J-261 9-01, remove reverse shifter shaft cover, shifter shaft detent cap, spring and ball and interlock lock pin.

3. Remove extension housing retaining bolts and remove extension housing,
then press down on speedometer gear retainer and remove gear and retainer from mainshaft.




4. Remove shifter shaft snap rings, the reverse shifter shaft cover, shift rod detent cap, spring and detent ball, then using a pair of pliers, pull exposed end of reverse shifter shaft outward to disengage reverse lever from idler shaft. Remove idler shaft with gear attached.

5. Remove reverse gear and reverse countergear snap rings and remove gears.




6. With transmission in a horizontal position, remove clutch gear bearing retainer bolts, retainer and gasket, then remove snap ring retaining clutch gear ball bearing to housing and remove bellhousing retaining bolts.

7. With transmission in a vertical position, expand snap ring in mainshaft bearing opening and remove case by lifting it off mainshaft. Assure that mainshaft, countergear and shifter shaft assemblies remain with bellhousing.

NOTE: It may be necessary to tap case with a plastic hammer to remove it.

8. Remove mainshaft with shifter forks attached, and the countergear meshed with gear teeth in the mainshaft, as an assembly from the bell housing.
