Paint - Oshawa #1 Changed to Basecoat/Clear System

Number 86-2-14 Date 8/86

Subject: WA NUMBERS FOR OSHAWA #1 BUILT VEHICLES WITH THE BASECOAT/CLEARCOAT FINISHES

1986 6000 AND STE MODELS
In January of 1986, the Oshawa Plant #1 changed from lacquer to the Basecoat/Clearcoat (BC/CC) paint system starting with VIN 2G2AF19X6G9266233.

From SOP, (1/20/86), no "WA" numbers were being used on Service Parts Identification Label (S.P.I.D.). In later production, the plant started using the lacquer "WA" numbers. However, new "WA" numbers have been assigned and appear on the S.P.I.D. label starting with VIN 2G2AH19W5G9274215. When refinishing all BC/CC 1986/87 Oshawa Plant #1 production, these new "WA" numbers must be used to achieve an acceptable color match when repairing the BC/CC finishes.

To aid in identifying this plant, the eleventh position in the VIN will be a "9". Refer to the list included with this bulletin for correct "WA" numbers for each color.

Follow the paint manufacturer's recommendations when repairing the BC/CC finishes.
