Subject: AIR CONDITIONING AND HEATER BLOWER SWITCH INOPERATIVE
1986 6000 STE MODELS
"This bulletin is being reissued due to the large percentage of returned control heads in which only this condition was found."
Some of the above vehicles may be reported as having a gradual loss of blower switch shaft travel until travel is not sufficient to change blower speed.
This is caused by the button on the end of the shaft having a rib omitted on the inside of the button. This allows the button to seat too far on the shaft and does not allow the shaft to travel far enough to rachet the switch.
The condition can be corrected by installing new button, P/N 16041103 on the switch shaft.. Follow the procedures listed below:
1. Remove A/C-Heater control head from instrument panel.
2. Remove blower switch from control head.
3. Check blower switch buttons for rib as shown in Illustration.
4. Replace buttons without ribs.
5. Reinstall switch to control head and reinstall control head to instrument panel.
