Owner Notification Letter

Dear Pontiac Owner:

General Motors has determined that some 1986 Pontiac Fiero model vehicles equipped with 2.8L V6 engine and 5-speed manual transmission may experience a condition whereby an interlock pin in the transmission may become mispositioned.

If this condition were to occur on your vehicle, it would not be possible to shift the transmission completely out of first gear.

To prevent this condition from occurring on your vehicle, a spacer will be installed to assure proper retention of the interlock pin. This service will be performed for you at no charge.

Instructions for this service have been sent to your Pontiac dealer. Please contact your dealer to arrange a service date. The labor time to make this modification on your vehicle is approximately 6 hours. Please ask your dealer if you wish to know how much additional time will be needed to process your vehicle.

The enclosed owner reply card identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this card to your dealer will assist in making the necessary correction in the shortest possible time. If you have sold or traded your vehicle, please let us know by completing the postage paid owner card and returning it to us.
