TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE CONTACTS THE A/C
Subject: PIPE CAUSING A RUB THROUGH CONDITION (INSTALL/MOVE PROTECTIVE SLEEVES)
Models
Affected: 1987-88 6000 WITH 2.5L, 3.1 OR 2.8L ENGINE
Some 1987-88 6000 models with 2.5L (VIN Code R) , 3.1L (VIN Code T) and 2.8L (VIN Code W) engines with MD9 3-speed transmission and C60/C67 Air Conditioners have a potential rub through condition of the A/C pipe by the auto-transmission cable. This pipe is part of the A/C hose assembly routed along the left fender rail from evaporator to accumulator. The vibration and engine roll movement of the transaxle may cause the shift cable to rub through the A/C pipe, causing a refrigerant leak and an inoperative A/C system.

FIGURE 2:
This condition may be addressed by using the following service parts and procedure to protect the A/C pipe.
Procedure For 2.5L Engine (VIN Code R)
1. Loosen the clip that holds the A/C pipe to the fender rail, See Figures 1 and 2.
2. Slide the rear rubber protective sleeve forward to the clip, as shown in Figure 2.
3. Retighten the clip to fender rail.
