Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

1. On fuel injected models, depressurize fuel system as outlined under Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
3. Remove fuel tank.
4. Remove fuel sending unit and pump assembly by turning cam lock ring counterclockwise. Lift assembly from tank, then remove fuel pump from fuel lever sending unit.
5. Pull pump up into attaching hose while pulling outward away from bottom support. Take care not to damage rubber insulator and strainer during removal.
6. After pump assembly is clear from bottom support, pull assembly out from rubber connector.

INSTALLATION

1. Reverse removal procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Inspect all hoses for deterioration and rubber insulator at bottom of pump.
b. Do not fold over or twist strainer when installing sending unit. This will restrict fuel flow.
