Subject: STALL IN GEAR AND CODE 35

1987 6000 AND GRAND AM MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINE

Figure 1:

Some 1987 6000 and Grand Am models equipped with the 2.5L engine may experience a condition of stalling when placed in gear and Code 35 stores in the memory.. This condition may occur at a cold start up at extremely low mileage. The fuel meter body to throttle body gasket (see figure 1) may have been inadvertently installed upside down which restricts some passages.

To repair this condition, separate the meter body from the throttle body and reinstall the gasket correctly making sure that the passages are not blocked by the gasket. Vehicles produced after approximately July 15, 1987 should not experience this condition.
