Removal and Installation

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and secure to upper radiator hose.

2. Remove air cleaner assembly.

3. Remove hydraulic clutch slave cylinder and bracket from transaxle. Do not allow manual clutch shaft to move when removing or installing clutch lever.

4. Disconnect transaxle shift linkage at transaxle.

5. Disconnect speedometer cable or electrical connector at transaxle.

6. Pry off cable ends from transaxle ball studs connecting shift levers and cables.

7. Remove one stud and four of the five bolts attaching transaxle to engine.

8. Remove clutch inspection cover, then remove starter motor assembly.

9. Attach a suitable support fixture to engine.

10. Raise and support vehicle, then drain lubricant from transaxle.

11. Install suitable drive axle boot seal protectors on both inner and outer seals.

12. Remove left front wheel assembly.

13. Remove left side cradle and crossmember assembly as follows:

a. Position jack under engine to act as a support during removal and installation.

b. Disconnect front ball joint.

c. Disconnect front stabilizer bar from control arm.

d. Remove front stabilizer bar plate and bushing from side member.

e. Disconnect engine and transaxle mount from left side member.

f. Remove side member to crossmember attaching bolts.

g. Remove 2 left side body mount bolts.

h. Remove left side and crossmember assembly.

14. Disconnect right and left hand drive axles from transaxle using tool Nos. J-33008, J-29794 and J-2619-01. Remove left hand drive axle from transaxle and support. The right hand drive axle can be removed as the transaxle is being removed from the vehicle.

15. Position a suitable jack under transaxle and secure.

16. Remove remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolt.

17. Carefully lower transaxle from vehicle, guiding right hand drive shaft out of transaxle.

18. Reverse procedure to install. Position right hand drive axle into transaxle as transaxle is being installed.
