4. Loosen two hose clamps at air intake duct.
5. Air intake duct and Mass Air Flow Sensor as an assembly.
6. T.V. cable at throttle body and at transaxle.
7. If equipped with cruise control:
^ Cable at throttle body
^ Vacuum hoses at servo
^ Servo assembly
8. Shift control linkage:
^ Mounting bracket at transaxle
^ Lever at manual shaft
9. Wiring connectors at:
^ Park/neutral switch
^ [1][2]Torque converter clutch
^ Vehicle speed sensor
10. Vacuum modulator hose at modulator.
11. Three top transaxle to engine bolts.
12. Install engine support fixture.
IMPORTANT
^ It is necessary to "load" the support fixture by tightening the wing-nuts several turns to relieve tension on the cradle and mounts.
13. Turn steering wheel to the full left position.
CAUTION: To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle at the opposite end from which components are being removed. This will reduce the possibility of the vehicle falling off of the hoist.
14. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
15. Both front tire and wheel assemblies.
16. Remove right front ball joint nut.
17. Separate control arm from steering knuckle.
NOTICE: Drive axle seal protector J 34754 should be modified and installed on any drive axle prior to service procedures on or near the drive axle. Failure to observe this can result in seal damage and possible joint failure.
18. Right drive axle.
IMPORTANT
^ Carefully guide output shaft past lip seal. Do not allow shaft splines to contact any portion of lip seal surface, otherwise damage to the seal will occur.
19. Left drive axle.
20. Left front transaxle mount.
^ Three bolts at transaxle.
^ Three nuts at cradle member.
21. Right front transaxle mount to cradle nuts.
22. Left rear transaxle mount to transaxle bolts.
23. Right rear transaxle mount:
^ Three nuts to cradle member.
^ Two bolts to transaxle case.
24. Engine support bracket to transaxle case bolts.
25. Stabilizer link to control arm bolt.
26. Flywheel cover bolts and flywheel cover.
27. Flywheel to converter bolts.
28. Bolts attaching rear cradle member to front cradle dog leg.
IMPORTANT
^ Mark flywheel to converter relationship to ensure proper reassembly.
29. Front left cradle to body attaching bolt.
30. Front cradle dog leg to right cradle member bolts.
31. Install transaxle support fixture into position.
32. Cradle assembly by swinging aside and supporting with suitable stand.
33. Cooler pipes at transaxle.
IMPORTANT
^ One bolt is located between the transaxle case and the engine block and is installed in the opposite direction.
34. Remaining lower transaxle to engine block bolts.
35. Lower transaxle assembly away from vehicle.
IMPORTANT
^ Use care to avoid damaging right hand output shaft, shaft seal, hoses, lines and wiring.
