Number 87-8-5 Date 10/86Subject: NEW PROCEDURE TO PREVENT BATTERY DISCHARGE DURING SHIPMENT AND STORAGE
ALL MODELS
FIGURE 1 - FUSE INSTALLATION REMINDER:
Beginning with the start of production on 1987 models, all General Motors assembly plants will inspect each vehicle for excessive parasitic loads and ensure that each vehicle battery has a green eye prior to shipment.
The Pontiac 6000 carline will have an additional feature to improve battery condition. The fuse for courtesy light will be shipped in a bubble pack hung from the rearview mirror (see Figure 1). The intent of this fuse removal is to reduce parasitic loads on the battery while in transit and during new vehicle storage.. At time of delivery to the customer, the fuse should be installed in the vehicle.

FIGURE 3 - FEED WIRE:
Pontiac Firebird and Parisienne models will have the underhood lights disconnected on those vehicles so equipped. It will be necessary to connect the feed wire and check the operation of the light before delivery (see Figure 2 for Parisienne and Figure 3 for Firebird applications).
