Steering Column - Rattles

1984-87 SUNBIRD AND GRAND AM MODELS
Some 1984-87 Sunbird and Grand Am models equipped with tilt steering columns may exhibit a rattling noise in the column.. This noise may be from the lock bolt area and can be repaired by lubricating the lock bolt. See figure.
1. Remove steering wheel, shaft lock cover, shaft lock, cancelling cam, cancelling cam spring, signal switch, buzzer switch, lock cylinder and lock housing cover as shown in the Service Manual in Section 3B4.
2. Liberally coat exposed area of lock bolt with lithium base chassis grease, then reassemble. Refer to Service Manual Section 3B4 for the reassembly procedure.
