Some 1987-88 Sunbird models may experience a "phantom wipe" condition. During a cold start, the wipers may sweep one time and then park without the wiper switch being on. If this condition occurs, replace the steering column pulse wiper switch.
Note that the part numbers for the switch listed in group 6.518 of the parts book are incorrect. Usage of these switches will induce the "phantom wipe" condition.
Correct part numbers for the pulse wiper switches are listed below:
7848195 - Sunbird without tilt wheel
7848196 - Sunbird with tilt wheel
These numbers can be found in groups 2.459 and 10.163 of the parts book. Although the usage indicates 1984 - 1986 models, these parts apply to 1987 and 1988 Sunbird models as well.
