Subject: COLD DRIVEABILITY - HESITATION/SAG
1987 SUNBIRD MODELS WITH 2.0L L-4 (VIN CODE K) ENGINE AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Automatic and Manual:
The 1987 Sunbirds with the 2.0L OHC engine and automatic or manual transmission may exhibit a cold hesitation or sag below approximately 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
If other system problems, i.e., ignition or fuel feed, are not causing the cold drive problem, then an Air Fuel (A/F) mixture drop tube should be installed. The inlet manifold mixture tube improves cold fuel (liquid) distribution to the inlet runners, thus improving cold-towarm driveability.
The accompanying drawing shows the installation of the mixture drop tube kit, P/N 10106050, includes two gaskets and metal drop-tube..
Automatic Only:
Further cold-to-warm driveability (above approximately 32 degrees Fahrenheit) improvements are attainable through a PROM change. Refer to bulletin 87-6(Gasoline)-28.
