Computers and Control Systems: Description and Operation
Computer Command Control (C-3) is an electronically controlled emission and fuel control system. The C-3 system uses an Electronic Control Module (ECM) to monitor engine and vehicle operating conditions in order to control systems affecting engine performance.
The system operates fuel control and air management systems only.
The system has a back-up program which allows near normal vehicle operation in case of a system malfunction, and a ``Check Engine'' or ``Service Engine Soon'' lamp on the instrument panel to alert the operator to malfunctions. This same lamp, operating through an internal diagnostic circuit, allows many system malfunctions to be diagnosed and located for repair.
