Compressor Replacement
V6-173 (V6-191, if applicable)
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge system refrigerant.
2. Disconnect compressor harness leads.
3. Remove upper through mounting bolt and shim from rear of compressor.
4. Remove upper belt tension adjusting bolt, then remove lower compressor to generator mounting bracket bolt.
5. Push compressor rearward in upper bracket to full extent of travel.
6. Lift compressor drive belt off water pump pulley and crankshaft damper, then shift belt behind both pulleys to provide sufficient slack to slide belt over compressor inertia ring.
7. Loosen front radiator support brace, then swing brace toward right fender.
8. Remove compressor manifold to compressor retaining bolt, then lift compressor from vehicle.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
2.8L (VIN W) & 2.5L (VIN R)
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge system refrigerant.
2. Disconnect compressor harness leads.
3. Remove serpentine drive belt.
2. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove compressor hose assembly.
5. Remove compressor mounting bolts and compressor.
6. Transfer brackets as nessary.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
3.8L (VIN 3)
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then discharge system refrigerant.
2. Disconnect compressor harness leads.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove upper pivot bolts.
5. Remove splash shield.
6. Remove compressor hose assembly.
7. Remove upper belt tension adjusting bolt.
8. Remove compressor.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
