Manual 3RD Gear
With the selector lever in Manual Third (non-overdrive) position, the second and third clutch are applied as during drive range operation, the input clutch is applied and both the input sprag and third roller clutch are in holding positions. Power flow is similar to drive range third gear operation except for the application of the input clutch which provides engine braking. Coasting in drive range third gear (input clutch off) causes vehicle motion to drive the input
sun gear slower than the engine is driving the input housing, overrunning the third roller clutch. However, with the input clutch applied, the sprag prevents the input sun gear from turning slower than the input housing and the third roller clutch cannot overrun.
