Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery cables, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove rear compartment lid. Do not remove torsion rod retaining bolts.
3. Remove air cleaner, then disconnect throttle and transaxle cables.
4. Disconnect all necessary vacuum hoses from non-engine components.
5. Disconnect heater hose from intake manifold.
6. Disconnect fuel lines and remove fuel filter.
7. Disconnect fuel pump relay and oxygen sensor electrical connectors.
8. On models equipped with automatic transaxle, disconnect transaxle cooler lines.
9. On models equipped with manual transaxle, remove slave cylinder.
10. On all models, disconnect engine ground strap.
11. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses.
12. Disconnect engine harness connector from bulkhead.
13. On models equipped with A/C, discharge refrigerant from system, then disconnect and cap lines from A/C compressor.
14. Remove rear console.
15. Disconnect electronic control module (ECM) electrical connector through bulkhead panel.
16. Install engine support fixture, tool No. J-28467 or equivalent to engine.
17. Mark the engine strut bracket and attaching bolt for assembly reference, then remove bolt and bracket.
18. Raise and support vehicle.
19. Remove rear wheels.
20. On models equipped with automatic transaxle, remove torque converter attaching bolts.
21. Disconnect parking brake cable.
22. Remove brake calipers and suspend from frame with a piece of wire. Do not suspend calipers by brake hoses.
23. Mark struts for proper realignment as described under ``Strut Assembly, Replace'' in the ``Rear Axle, Rear Suspension & Brakes'' section, then remove strut attaching bolts.
24. Disconnect any remaining electrical connectors interfering with engine removal.
25. Remove engine cradle attaching bolts.
26. Release parking brake cables from cradle using tool No. J-34065 or equivalent.
27. Support engine, transaxle and cradle assembly with a suitably dolly, then lower vehicle and remove engine support fixture. When lowering vehicle, ensure outboard ends of lower control arms are properly supported.
28. Raise vehicle and slide engine, transaxle and cradle assembly out from under vehicle.
29. Separate engine from transaxle.
30. Reverse procedure to install.
