Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

1. Release pressure from fuel system as follows:
a. Remove fuel pump fuse from fuse block, then start and run engine until engine stalls from fuel starvation.
b. Energize starter for approximately 3 seconds to release any residual pressure from system.
c. Turn ignition off and replace fuel pump fuse.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove fuel tank from vehicle.
5. Remove fuel meter/pump assembly. Turn cam lock ring counterclockwise, then lift assembly from fuel tank and remove pump from meter.
6. Lift pump up into attaching hose while pulling away from bottom support. When pump is clear of lower support, remove assembly from rubber connector. Use care to avoid damage to rubber insulator and strainer during removal.
7. Reverse procedure to install.
