On vehicles equipped with automatic transmission, the neutral start and back-up light switches are combined into one unit and must be replaced as an assembly.

MANUAL TRANSMISSION
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove shift trim plate cover.
3. Disconnect electrical connector from switch, Figs. 7 and 8.
4. Remove switch retainer and the switch.
5. Reverse procedure to install.

AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Open deck lid, then open retaining clip and disconnect electrical connector from switch.
3. Pry cable from pivot pin at bottom of shift lever, then remove lever-to-transmission shaft attaching nut.
4. Remove 2 switch-to-transaxle attaching bolts and the switch, Fig. 9.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Transmission must be in Neutral when installing switch.
b. Torque switch attaching bolts to 20 ft. lbs.
c. Torque lever attaching nut to 20 ft. lbs. while holding lever out of Park.
