Subject: PREVENTING A/C COMPRESSOR BOLT/STUD TORQUE LOSS
Models
Affected: 1987 AND 1988 L-4 ENGINES (VIN CODES K AND M) IN SUNBIRD AND GRAND AM APPLICATIONS
This bulletin is revised to correct a part number for Loctite (R) 242 material, this is the only change. Please discard bulletin 88-1-6 issued 2188.
Any repair to the A/C compressor or the A/C belt system will require loosening some A/C bracket bolts. To prevent future torque loss after retightening of these bolts, a preferred repair method is recommended.
All the A/C compressor bolts use an adhesive patch for high initial torque retention. To maintain the high torque after any repair, the bolt or stud should be replaced with an appropriate new bolt or stud OR apply Loctite(R) to the bolt or stud threads. Follow the Loctite(R) package instructions for best retention. The Loctite(R) 242 material, P/N 12345382 is available from GMSPO.
