Parts, Service Procedure and Campaign Label Information

PARTS INFORMATION

Parts required to complete this campaign are to be obtained from General Motors Service Parts Operation (GMSPO). Only a small number of vehicles are involved in this campaign, and dealers should only order enough parts to handle the vehicles that actually appear on the dealers' listings. To ensure these parts will be obtained as soon as possible, they should be ordered from GMSPO on a C.I.O. order with NO special instruction code, but on an advise code (2).

1. Install vehicle on a hoist. Raise and prop the hood open.

INSPECTION AND INSTALLATION OF BRACE, ENGINE BLOCK TO INTAKE MANIFOLD:

2. Look under the intake manifold for brace, part (1) in Figure 1.

3. If brace is present, proceed to Step 10.

4. If brace is missing, disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery, raise vehicle and inspect the mounting bosses of the intake manifold (to cylinder head) for cracks. If cracks are found, replace intake manifold.

USE THE APPROPRIATE "T" OPERATION FOUND IN THE CLAIMS SECTION OF THIS BULLETIN IF IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE A CRACKED INTAKE MANIFOLD.

5. Confirm that Stud (4) in Figure 1 is present on boss of engine block. If required, install Stud (part number 10012815) into boss of block; torque to 55 lbs. ft. (75 N-m).

INSPECTION AND INSTALLATION OF # 3 AND # 4 BOLTS, TRANSAXLE TO ENGINE BLOCK:

10. Inspect for presence of bolt at position (3), see Figure 3.

11. If bolt is present, proceed to Step 17; it is not necessary to look at position (4). If bolt is missing, proceed with Steps 12 through 17.
12. Disconnect negative battery cable at the battery if not previously done.

13. Inspect mounting bosses of the transaxle (to engine block). If bosses are cracked, replace the transaxle case.

USE THE APPROPRIATE "T" OPERATION FOUND IN THE CLAIMS SECTION OF THIS BULLETIN IF IT IS NECESSARY TO REPLACE A CRACKED TRANSAXLE CASE.

14. Install bolt (part number 11504299) at position (3) as shown in Figure 3. Torque bolt to 55 lbs. ft. (75 N-m). It may be necessary to use a thin wall socket or "crow's foot".

15. Install bolt (part number 11504299) under engine/transaxle mounting bracket, at bolt location (4) Figure 3. Torque to 55 lbs. ft. (75 N-m). Use a 19 mm universal socket and 12 inch extension; a small piece of tape on the hex surfaces of the bolt will aid in retaining it in the socket.

16. Reconnect negative battery cable at battery.

17. Install Campaign Identification Label and close hood.

CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL

Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label." Each label provides a space to include the campaign number, the five digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service, and the date the vehicle was campaigned. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ball point pen. Install the label only on a clean, dry surface of the radiator baffle where it is readily visible. (Additional campaign labels are available on stationery order as Form 7901-709).
