Subject: PRODUCT CAMPAIGN 88-C-09 BRACE TO INTAKE MANIFOLD AND BOLTS, ENGINE TO MANUAL TRANSAXLE
VEHICLES AFFECTED Certain 1988 Pontiac Grand Am Models with Turbocharged Engine (VIN Code M) and Manual 5-Speed Transaxle (MG1)
TO: ALL PONTIAC DEALERS
General Motors has determined that some 1988 Pontiac Grand Am models equipped with turbocharged engines and manual five-speed transaxles were produced without a brace between the engine block and the intake manifold. Without the brace, the intake manifold may crack, resulting in poor driveability and increased noise. Also, two bolts which fasten the transaxle to the engine block may be missing. Without these attaching bolts, the transaxle housing may crack, leading to loss of transmission fluid, eventual damage to internal transaxle parts, and loss of transmission operation.
Dealers are to inspect vehicles for missing parts and install such parts as may be necessary according to the SERVICE PROCEDURE section of this campaign bulletin.
