Heater Core: Service and Repair
LESS A/C1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Block off heater hoses with spring clips, then mark hoses for installation reference.
3. Disconnect heater hoses from heater core.
4. Remove package panel, then move heater control levers to lowest position.
5. Disconnect temperature control cable from actuating lever and air distributor.
6. Remove kick panel from under glove box.
7. Disconnect temperature valve linkage from right hand air distributor.
8. Lift carpeting, then remove air distributor cover attaching screws and the cover.
9. Remove heater core attaching screws, then the heater core and bracket assembly. Move temperature valve as necessary to gain access to all screws.
10. Reverse procedure to install.
WITH A/C
1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Block off heater hoses with spring clips, then disconnect the hoses from heater core.
3. Disconnect evaporator drain hose from heater case.
4. On models equipped with manual transaxle, remove gear shift boot.
5. On all models, remove package shelf, then the front floor console shift plate and front center console.
6. Remove glove box attaching screws and straps, then the glove box.
7. Remove hush panel retainers and the hush panel.
8. Remove outer heater case cover retainers, then bend back tab and remove the cover.
9. Remove heater case cover retaining clips and the cover.
10. Remove heater core cover attaching screws and the cover.
11. Remove heater core clamps and the heater core.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
