Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

The Manifold Air Temperature (MAT) sensor is a thermistor, or resistor that changes its value based on temperature. When the engine is cold the sensor should read close to surrounding air temperature and rise as underhood and engine temperature increases.
