Accelerator Cable

Remove:

1. Remove air cleaner and note throttle cable routing.

2. Remove throttle cable lock clip from cable, save clip (see Figures 1 and 2).
3. Disconnect cable from linkage ball.

4. Pull cable assembly rearward until inner cable reaches accelerator cable support bracket.

5. Remove accelerator cable from cable support bracket.

6. Pull cable assembly protective hose rearward and note position of locking C-clip (see Figures 2 and 3).

7. Remove locking C-clip and save clip.

8. From inside vehicle, disconnect cable from accelerator linkage by squeezing plastic retaining clips and pulling rearward (see Figure 2).

9. From engine compartment, pull cable grommet from cowl and remove cable assembly.

Install:

1. On new cable assembly, pull protective hose rearward for access to notches on cable (see Figure 3).

2. Insert C-clip at 11th notch with tip of C-clip facing protective cover (see Figure 3).

3. Slide rubber grommet and plain washer rearward to rest against C-clip and push protective hose forward to rest against C-clip.
4. Route cable through cowl and push grommet in place in cowl.

5. Install cable in accelerator cable support bracket.

6. Position cable end on linkage ball and insert lock clip. Be sure clip is snapped firmly in place (see figure 2).

7. Recheck cable in cowl.

8. From inside vehicle, slide cable into slot in accelerator pedal linkage (see Figure 1).
9. Snap plastic cable clip into accelerator linkage by pushing forward.

10. If cable feels over tensioned, remove locking C-clip and install at the 9th or 10th notch. If cable feels under tensioned, insert locking washer at the 12 or 13 notch.
