Subject: A/C FUSES # 12 DEFORMS THE FUSE BLOCK MATERIAL (REWIRE A/C HIGH BLOWER)
Models
Affected: 1988 AND 1989 LEMANS
This bulletin cancels and replaces bulletin 89-1-17 issued 1/90. This bulletin is being revised to add step 9 and the labor operation and labor time.
High electrical loads may cause the A/C fuse # 12, 30 AMP, to deform the fuse block and make it difficult to install a new fuse.
To correct this condition, change the power source for the A/C high blower relay to reduce electrical load through fuse # 12 as follows:
1. Disconnect the battery.
Figure 1:
2. Lower the fuse box from the dash. (See Figure 1)
3. Remove the A/C and high blower relay holder. This holder has a yellow plastic housing.
Figure 2:
4. Cut off the large yellow wire as close to the A/C relay as possible. This cavity has two yellow wires going into one terminal, only cut the large wire. (See Figure 2)
5. Install a 30 AMP heavy duty inline fuse to the large yellow wire that was cut.
6. Splice the other end of the inline fuse to the large solid red wire that goes to fuse # 12. Solder connections as necessary and insulate the connections.
7. Remove fuse # 12 and check that the electrical contacts are tight and make good contact to the fuse.
8. Reinstall fuse box.
9. Remove the yellow wire from the blower resistor connector insulate the terminal and tape it back to the harness.
