Differential
DISASSEMBLE1. Remove side bearings using tool No. J-22888 and a suitable puller.
2. Remove ring gear and speedometer drive gear. Do not reuse speedometer drive gear.
3. Drive out lock pin and remove crosspin, pinion gears and thrust washers. Pull side gears and thrust washers from differential.
ASSEMBLE
1. Install two side gears and thrust washers on case, then position two thrust washers and pinion gears opposing each other by rotating side
gear.
2. Insert crosspin maintaining a 0.0012 to 0.0031 inch tolerance, install lock pin and stake it.
3. Heat speedometer drive gear to 176° F., and install on differential.
4. Install ring gear on case and apply P/N 1052624 or equivalent on ring gear bolts. Install bolts and torque to 73 to 79 ft lbs using a diagonal sequence. Apply a coat of engine oil to crosspin, differential gears, differential thrust portion, side gear shaft and spline before installation.
