Engine: Service and Repair



1. Disconnect cables from battery, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly, then disconnect engine electrical harness connector.
3. Remove hood support, then prop hood up.
4. Disconnect all external vacuum hose connections, then remove radiator and heater hoses.
5. On models equipped with A/C, disconnect compressor and position aside. Do not disconnect refrigerant lines from compressor.
6. On all models, remove alternator and alternator bracket, then engine torque strut.
7. Remove throttle and transaxle linkages at the throttle body assembly and intake manifold.
8. Remove all transaxle-to-engine attaching bolts except the top two bolts.
9. Remove front engine mount-to-cradle nuts, then front exhaust pipe.
10. Remove flywheel inspection cover, then torque converter-to-flywheel attaching bolts.
11. Remove starter motor.
12. On models equipped with power steering, remove power steering pump and bracket and position aside.
13. On all models, disconnect fuel feed line. Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE/RELIEVING FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE for fuel pressure bleed procedure.
14. Remove 2 rear transaxle support bracket bolts.
15. Using a suitable jack and a block of wood placed under transaxle, raise engine and transaxle until engine front mount studs clear cradle bracket.
16. Attaching suitable lifting equipment to engine. Put tension on engine and remove 2 remaining transaxle to engine attaching bolts.
17. Slide engine assembly forward and lift from vehicle.
18. Reverse procedure to install.
