Crankshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair







REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Timing cover.
2. Place # 1 piston at top dead center with the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets aligned (#4 firing position).
3. Camshaft sprocket and chain.

CAUTION If the sprocket does not come off easily, a light blow on the lower edge of the sprocket (with a plastic mallet) should dislodge the sprocket.

4. Crankshaft sprocket

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Crankshaft sprocket
2. Apply "Molykote" or equivalent to the sprocket thrust surface.
3. Hold the sprocket with the chain hanging down and align the marks on the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets.
4. Align dowel in camshaft with dowel hole in camshaft sprocket.
5. Draw the camshaft sprocket onto camshaft using the mounting bolts.
Tighten
^ Camshaft sprocket mounting bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lb.)
6. Lubricate timing chain with engine oil
7. Timing cover.
Tighten
^ M8X1.25 Bolts to 18-36 Nm (13-26 ft. lb.)
^ M10X1.5 Bolts to 27-48 Nm (27-48 ft. lb.)
