Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Installation Procedure:

1. Remove sunroof sliding glass panel as described in the Roof Section of the appropriate Pontiac Service Information Manual.

2. Place glass panel upside down on a padded workbench, being careful not to scratch the glass surface.

3. Remove the old weatherstrip seal by peeling the seal off of the glass panel molding, starting at the butt joint.

4. Using a clean shop rag, remove any loose adhesive material from the weatherstrip seal mounting surface on the glass panel molding.

5. Apply a bead of Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive to the glass panel molding/weatherstrip seal contact area. Refer to Figure 2.

6. Begin installation of the weatherstrip seal at either side of the glass panel. The position of the end of the weatherstrip determines the location of the weatherstrip butt joint. The butt joint must be positioned near the center of either the right or left side of the sliding glass panel (the shorter sides of the panel). THE BUTT JOINT CANNOT BE POSITIONED ON THE FRONT OR REAR OF THE PANEL (the longer sides). Refer to Figure 2.

7. Install weatherstrip seal around the sliding glass panel, making sure that the weatherstrip is tight against the glass panel molding. When you are within approximately six inches of the starting point, allow the weatherstrip to hang free from the molding. Overlap the free end and the installed end of the seal as shown in View A of Figure 2.

8. Cut the weatherstrip seal, allowing 1/8 - 3/16 inches (3-5 mm) overlap of the two ends as shown in Figure 2. Be careful to cut the weatherstrip off squarely.

9. Apply a small amount of Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive to each end of the weatherstrip seal.

10. Finish installation of the weatherstrip seal by first installing the free end of the weatherstrip at the butt joint and forcing the remainder of the weatherstrip into position as shown in Figure 3. Installing the weatherstrip in this manner will ensure a tight joint and correct sealing.

11. After completing installation of the weatherstrip seal, allow the adhesive to cure for at least 10 minutes before installing the sliding glass panel in the vehicle. Refer to Figure 4.

12. Install the glass panel in vehicle using the procedures described in the appropriate Pontiac Service Manual.

13. Adjust glass panel fore/aft and up/down position as described in the appropriate Service Information Manual.

Up/Down (Glass Panel Height) Specification:

^ Adjust front corners of glass panel so that it is flush to 1.5 mm (flush to 0.060") BELOW roof panel. Refer to Figure 5.

^ Adjust rear corners of glass panel so that it is flush to 1.5 mm (flush to 0.060") ABOVE roof panel. Refer to Figure 5.

Fore/Aft Specification:

^ The sliding glass panel weatherstrip seal should make continuous contact with the roof panel around the entire sunroof opening. To check for contact, completely close the sunroof and insert a business card or 0.040" thickness gage between the sunroof seal and roof panel. Check for seal-to-roof panel contact by sliding the card around the entire seal contact area. The card should drag slightly as it is pulled between the seal and the roof panel.

^ If the gap is excessively wide or narrow at the front or rear, adjust the glass panel fore/aft position as described in the appropriate Pontiac Service Manual.
