New Glass Panel Weatherstrip Kit: Overview

This bulletin supersedes the portions of Pontiac Bulletin 90-10-24 issued 4/90. This bulletin supersedes only the information regarding replacement of the glass panel weatherstrip.

For general service information and procedures refer to the appropriate Pontiac Service Manual, Section 10. A factory-installed sunroof can be identified by CF5 on the Service Parts Identification Label.

An improved sunroof sliding glass panel weatherstrip is now available for service of Webasto sunroof-equipped vehicles (option CF5).

The weatherstrip kit, P/N 3635717, includes a sliding glass panel weatherstrip seal and a one-ounce bottle of Loctite (R) Black Max (TM) 380 Black Toughened Instant Adhesive. Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive must be used when installing the sunroof weatherstrip. Failure to use Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive may result in failure of the weatherstrip to properly retain on the sliding glass panel molding, resulting in wind noise complaints. A sufficient quantity of Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive is included in the weatherstrip kit. This adhesive may also be purchased locally through specialized supply houses.

Adhesive Shelf Life:





Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive has a limited shelf life and should be refrigerated during storage. Before installing a sunroof weatherstrip seal as described in this bulletin, check the date code printed on the back label of the Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive which is included in the weatherstrip kit. The date code, shown in Figure 1, indicates the month and year in which the adhesive was manufactured. Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive has a shelf life of 12 months from the date of manufacture. As a result, the dealer ordering this weatherstrip seal kit is responsible for the following:


^ Order only as many weatherstrip seal kits as you anticipate using over the next thirty days.

^ Upon receipt of the weatherstrip seal kit from GMSPO, open the package and inspect the date code located on the back label of the Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive bottle as shown in Figure 1. If the date code is greater than 12 months prior to the current date, return the weatherstrip seal kit to GMSPO utilizing procedures for defective material described in the GMSPO Parts Policy and Procedures Manual.

^ If weatherstrip seal kits have been received which will not be used within the upcoming thirty days, the Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive should be removed from the kit and refrigerated until use occurs.

^ If the weatherstrip seal kit is not used upon receipt at the dealer from GMSPO, and the adhesive was in-date at the time of receipt, it is the dealer's responsibility to ensure that the adhesive has not expired before use.





^ If adhesive is left over after completion of the weatherstrip seal kit installation procedure, it should be refrigerated if it is intended to be used at a later date. In any case, Loctite Black Max 380 Adhesive should be discarded if the date code on the back label of the bottle is greater than 12 months prior to the current date. Refer to Figure 1 for interpretation of the date code information.
