1. Mount differential in suitable holding device.
2. Remove righthand differential mounting bracket attaching bolts, Fig. 13.
3. Remove righthand output shaft, then seal and seal retainer.
4. Remove lefthand output shaft, then left side axle tube extension.
5. Remove differential carrier assembly retaining bolts, then insert a screwdriver into slots provided Fig. 14 and pry to separate case.
6. Remove bolt and lock tab from side bearing adjuster sleeve as shown in Fig. 15.
7. Using side bearing adjuster wrench tool No. J 33792 or equivalent, turn adjusting sleeve until bearing cup is pushed out of the case.
8. Using bearing removal tool No. J 21551 or equivalent, remove side bearing from sleeve.
9. Using pinion flange removal tool No. J 8614-01 or equivalent, remove pinion flange nut and washer.
10. Using pinion bearing remover kit J 33837-1 or equivalent, remove pinion flange and deflector, Fig. 16.
11. Remove pinion, spacer and shims.
12. Using pinion bearing removal kit tool No. J 33837-1 or equivalent, remove outer bearing, bearing cup and seal from carrier case.
13. Using pinion bearing removal kit tool No. J 33837-1 or equivalent, push out inner bearing cup as shown in Fig. 17.
14. Remove differential pinion shaft retaining screw, then pinion shaft from differential case.
15. Remove differential pinion gears and washers.
16. Scribe marks on side gears and case for assembly reference, then remove side gears and side thrust washers.
17. Remove drive gear and ring gear from differential case. Do not pry between ring gear and case. Drive gear off with a brass drift and hammer.
18. Using bearing cone remover tool No. J 22912-01 or equivalent, remove side bearings from differential case.
