Engine: Service and Repair


1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Relieve fuel pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable, remove air intake duct, then remove throttle cable bracket and the cables from throttle body.
4. Drain coolant, then raise and support vehicle.
5. Disconnect exhaust pipe at rear exhaust manifold, then remove engine mount bolts.
6. Disconnect starter wiring and remove starter, then detach A/C compressor and position out of way.
7. Disconnect power steering hoses at steering gear, then remove lower transaxle to engine attaching bolts. One bolt is located between transaxle case and engine block and is installed in opposite direction.
8. Remove flywheel dust cover, then the flywheel to torque converter attaching bolts. Mark relationship between flywheel and torque converter to ensure proper assembly.
9. Remove engine support bracket at transaxle, then lower vehicle.
10. Disconnect radiator and heater hoses, vacuum modulator and canister purge lines and the engine wiring harness.
11. Remove remaining engine to transaxle attaching bolts, then the transaxle assembly.
12. Reverse procedure to install.
13. Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
