TO: ALL PONTIAC DCS DEALERS


ATTENTION: DEALER PRINCIPAL AND SERVICE MANAGERS BE SURE TO REVIEW THIS INFORMATION WITH YOUR SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL


SUBJECT: Fuel Rollover Valve Assembly Product Campaign 89-C-01
General Motors has determined that some 1989 Pontiac Bonneville model vehicles fail to conform to the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) 301, "Fuel System Integrity". The fuel rollover valve assembly may not have been installed on the affected vehicles. In the event of an accident and the vehicle becomes inverted, a missing fuel rollover valve assembly could allow fuel spillage in excess of the amount prescribed by FMVSS 301, Fuel spillage during and after an accident could result in a fire.

This is notice to you that the new motor vehicles included in this campaign may not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 301. Under National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, Section 108, it is Illegal for a dealer to sell a new motor vehicle which the dealer knows does not comply with an applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety standards.


VEHICLES INVOLVED

Involved are certain 1989 Pontiac Bonneville models built at Willow Run within the following VIN breakpoints:

NOTICE: Only 536 vehicles within the range are involved. Invoices for these vehicles will be hold until one week after parts and involved vehicle listings have been shipped.


DEALER ACTION

To prevent the sale of noncomplying vehicles, dealers are to replace the fuel sender and pump assembly and install campaign labels on the vehicles involved.

NOTICE: Dealers are not to perform repairs until they have received the involved vehicle listings.
PARTS INFORMATION

Dealers who receive involved vehicles will be shipped the Fuel-Sender and Pump Assemblies (including tank gasket and instructions) on a "No Charge" basis. In addition, these dealers will be shipped VIN information, campaign label(s), and a copy of this DCS message. Parts will not be billed on dealer parts account. Dealer should not order parts from GMSPO. If transfers make additional parts necessary, contact your Zone office.

Parts shipment will start August 18, 1988.


CLAIM INFORMATION

A separate repair order must be used for each vehicle. A completed warranty claim is to be kept as a permanent record of completion.

DEALERS SHOULD SUBMIT WARRANTY CLAIMS FOR CREDIT IN THEIR NORMAL MANNER WHEN THEY PERFORM THE SERVICE AS FOLLOWS:

Subject: Rollover Valve Assembly Product Campaign 89-C-01

R. W. Greenisen's DCS message, dated August 8, 1988, identified the Fuel Sender and Pump Assembly as Part Number 2509448. However, AC Spark Plug is shipping this assembly as a kit and has labeled the carton with Part Number 25027120.

Please advise dealers and zone personnel that this is the correct part to perform this repair.
