Reverse
Reverse:
REVERSE
OVERDRIVE ROLLER CLUTCH - HOLDING
DIRECT CLUTCH - APPLIED
LO AND REVERSE CLUTCH - APPLIED
When the selector lever is moved to the Reverse (R) position, the manual valve is repositioned to allow line pressure to enter the reverse passage which directs oil to the following:
1. Lo and Reverse Checkball (10)
2. Lo and Reverse Overrun Clutch
3. Third Clutch and Reverse Checkball (6)
4. Inner Area of Direct Clutch
5. Outer Area of Direct Clutch
Reverse oil seats the lo/reverse checkball (10) in the lo overrun clutch passage and flows to the lo/reverse overrun clutch piston, applying the lo/reverse overrun clutch. Reverse oil also seats the 3rd/reverse checkball (6) in the 3rd clutch passage and flows to the inner area of the direct clutch piston. In addition, reverse oil is directed to the outer area of the direct clutch piston thus both the inner and the outer areas of the direct clutch piston combine to apply the direct clutch.
Reverse oil acting on the reverse boost valve in the pressure regulator will boost line pressure to approximately 725 kPa (105 psi). Modulated Throttle Valve (M.T.V.) oil from the line bias valve acting on the T.V. boost valve, in the pressure regulator, will further boost line pressure from 725 kPa (105 psi) at idle to 1725 kPa (250 psi) at full throttle.
SUMMARY
The overdrive roller clutch is holding, the direct clutch is applied, and the lo and reverse clutch is applied; the transmission is in Reverse (R).
