Cold Start Valve Assembly
Fuel Rail Assembly Model R610:
Cold Start Valve:
WARNING: Always keep a dry chemical (Class B) fire extinguisher near the work area. To reduce the risk of fire and the personal injury that may result from a fuel leak, always replace any O-ring seals exposed during component service.
REMOVAL:
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Relieve the fuel system pressure. See MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3. Remove the intake manifold plenum. See INTAKE MANIFOLD PLENUM.
NOTE: Clean around the cold start valve and tube nut with GM X30-A or equivalent.
4. Disconnect the cold start valve electrical connector.
5. Loosen and remove the cold start tube from the fuel rail fitting. Use a back-up wrench on the fuel rail fitting to prevent it from turning.
6. Remove the cold start valve retaining bolt.
7. Remove the cold start valve from the intake manifold.
8. Raise the tab on the tube and body assembly so it will clear the electrical connector, and unscrew the cold start valve.
9. Remove the O-ring seals from the tube and body assembly and cold start valve, discard the seals.
INSTALLATION:
1. Lubricate the new cold start valve and tube assembly O-ring seals with clean engine oil. Install the O-rings on the valve and tube assembly.
2. Position the cold start valve onto the tube and body assembly.
^ Screw in the valve until it bottoms, then back it off until the hole in the valve mounting lug will be aligned with the hole in the intake manifold when the assembly is mounted.
^ Bend the tab over the cold start valve to lock it in position.
3. Position the cold start valve into the opening in the intake manifold.
4. Install the cold start valve retaining bolt, and tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb.ft).
5. Install the cold start valve tube nut to the fitting on the fuel rail, and tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb.ft). Use a back-up wrench on the fuel rail fitting to prevent it from turning.
6. Connect the electrical connector on the cold start valve.
7. Check for fuel leaks:
a. Temporarily connect the negative battery cable.
b. With the engine "OFF" and the ignition "ON," check for fuel leaks.
c. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
8. Install the intake manifold plenum.
9. Connect the negative battery cable.
