SHAFT LOCK, TURN SIGNAL CANCELLING CAM, UPPER BEARING SPRING, UPPER BEARING SEAT, INNER RACE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, BUZZER SWITCH & LOCK CYLINDER SET.

1. Remove horn pad and disconnect electrical connectors, then remove retainer and jam nut, Figs. 85 and 86.
2. Remove steering wheel.
3. Depress shaft lock using special tool No. J 23653-B or equivalent, then remove shaft lock retaining ring.
4. Remove shaft lock and shaft lock cover, then the turn signal cancelling cam.
5. Remove upper bearing spring and upper bearing seat, then the inner race.
6. Place turn signal in ``right turn'' position, then remove signal switch arm attaching screw and the arm.
7. Remove turn signal switch attaching screws and position switch out of way. If it is necessary to remove switch, remove wiring protector and hazard knob, then gently pull wire harness through column housing shroud, column housing and lock housing cover.
8. Remove key from lock cylinder set and remove buzzer switch and clip, then reinsert key and place in ``lock'' position.
9. Remove lock retaining screw, then the lock cylinder set.
10. Reverse procedure to assemble noting the following:
a. Torque lock cylinder retaining screw to 22 lb in
b. Turn key to the RUN position and install buzzer switch and clip.
c. Torque turn signal switch screws to 30 lb in and signal switch arm screw to 20 lb in
d. Depress shaft lock using special tool and install shaft lock retaining ring and shaft lock cover.

LOCK HOUSING COVER, COVER END CAP, PIVOT & SWITCH ASSEMBLY, DIMMER SWITCH ROD ACTUATOR & TILT SPRING ASSEMBLY
1. Perform Shaft Lock, Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, Upper Bearing Spring, Upper Bearing Seat, Inner Race Turn Signal Switch, Buzzer Switch & Lock Cylinder Set procedure as previously described.
2. Remove lock housing cover retaining screws, then the cover and tilt release lever.
3. Remove housing cover end cap and dimmer switch rod actuator. On vehicles equipped with cruise control, disconnect cruise control connector and remove multifunction lever.
4. Gently pull pivot and switch assembly wire harness through column housing and column housing shroud.
5. Remove pivot pin, then the pivot and switch assembly.
6. Remove spring retainer, then the tilt spring and spring guide.
7. Reverse procedure to assemble noting the following:
a. Before installing spring guide and tilt spring, coat spring with lithium grease.
b. When installing dimmer switch rod actuator, bottom edge of rod actuator should rest on bend in dimmer switch rod.

COLUMN HOUSING, LOCK SHOES, ACTUATOR SECTOR ASSEMBLY, SWITCH ACTUATOR RACK BEARINGS & LOCK BOLT ASSEMBLY
1. Perform Shaft Lock, Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, Upper Bearing Spring, Upper Bearing Seat, Inner Race Turn Signal Switch & Lock Cylinder Set & Lock Housing Cover, Cover End Cap, Pivot & Switch Assembly, Dimmer Switch Rod Actuator & Tilt Spring Assembly procedure as previously described.

2. Using pivot pin tool remover No. J-21854-01 or equivalent, remove pivot pins, Fig. 63.
3. Install tilt release lever, then remove column housing assembly by pulling back on tilt release lever and pulling housing down and away from column.
4. Remove driveshaft, then switch actuator sector.
5. Remove switch actuator rack and rack preload spring, then the release lever pin.
6. Remove shoe release lever, then the release lever spring.
7. Remove dowel pin, then the lock shoes and lock shoe springs.
8. Remove bearings, then the hex head bolt, lock bolt spring and lock bolt.
9. Reverse procedure to assemble noting the following:
a. When installing column housing assembly, position housing assembly and align switch actuator rack with pin on end of actuator rod.
b. Pull back on tilt lever and push column housing assembly onto housing support assembly
c. Release tilt lever to lock shoes and remove tilt lever.
d. Lubricate pivot pins with lithium grease, then install pins.

SHAFT ASSEMBLY, COLUMN HOUSING SUPPORT SHIFT TUBE ASSEMBLY, IGNITION SWITCH, DIMMER SWITCH & LOWER BEARING ASSEMBLY
1. Perform of Shaft Lock, Turn Signal Cancelling Cam, Upper Bearing Spring, Upper Bearing Seat, Inner Race Turn Signal Switch & Lock Cylinder Set, Lock Housing Cover, Cover End Cap, Pivot & Switch Assembly, Dimmer Switch Rod Actuator & Tilt Spring Assembly & Column Housing, Lock Shoes, Actuator Sector Assembly, Switch Actuator Rack Bearings & Lock Bolt Assembly procedure as previously described.
2. Remove bearing retainer, lower spring retainer and lower bearing spring.
3. Remove lower bearing seat, attaching screws and lower bearing.
4. Remove shaft assembly, then the lower shaft from the shaft assembly.
5. Remove sphere from upper shaft, then the preload spring from sphere.
6. Remove attaching screws, then the housing support assembly and dimmer switch rod.
7. Remove key release lever and spring, if equipped, then the hex nut and hex head bolt.
8. Remove dimmer switch, mounting stud and gear shift lever bowl.
9. Reverse procedure to assemble noting the following:
a. Torque housing support assembly screws to 77 lb in
b. Install lower shaft to upper shaft with block tooth on shaft end of upper shaft at 12 o'clock position and notch at end of lower shaft at 4 o'clock position.
c. Lubricate shaft assembly with lithium grease.
