Throttle Position Sensor: Service and Repair



Throttle Position Sensor:





REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect the TPS electrical connector.
2. Remove the TPS attaching screws and retainers.
3. Remove the throttle position sensor.

NOTE: The throttle position sensor is an electrical component and must not be soaked in any liquid cleaner or solvent, as damage may result.

INSTALLATION:

1. With the throttle valve in the closed position, install the throttle position sensor on the throttle body assembly, making sure the throttle position sensor drive lever lines up with the TPS drive lever on the throttle shaft.
2. Install the throttle position sensor attaching screws, and finger tighten only.

ADJUSTMENT:

1. Block the drive wheels and set the parking brake.
2. Connect a SCAN tool to the ALDL connector.
3. Turn the ignition ON.
4. Select TPS voltage on the SCAN tool, and adjust the TPS to obtain 0.54 +/- 0.08 volts.
5. Tighten the TPS attaching screws to 2.0 Nm (18 lb.in). Make sure the adjustment did not change after tightening the screws.
