Subject: AIR NOISE AT PATCH MIRROR (INSTALL GASKET AND FOAM TAPE)

Models
Affected: 1989 GRAND AM MODELS

Figure:

Some 1989 Grand Am models may have air noise in the patch mirror area of either driver's or the passenger's door. This is caused by air getting behind the mirror mounting and the sound carrying up into the window frame.

This may be corrected by installing a gasket behind the mirror mounting on the inside of the door and 150 mm x 20 mm wide foam tape on the window channel as follows:

1. Remove the door trim panel and the mirror filler panel.

2. Disconnect the remote cable.

3. Remove the proper foam gasket from the backing paper and install it (sticky side towards door) with the three nuts on the studs in the holes and the remote cable routed through the slit.

4. Pull the glass channel down out of the door window frame at the front and partially out of the vertical channel.

5. Install the 150 mm x 20 mm tape as shown in Section A-A of figure.

6. Reassemble the door.
