Subject: POWER STEERING SHUDDER (INLET HOSE AND PIPE ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT)

Models

Affected: 1988-91 GRAND PRIX MODELS WITH 2.8L AND 3.1L

Condition: Some 1988-91 Grand Prix models with 2.8L (RPO LB6) or 3.1L (RPO LHO) V-6 engines assembled prior to VIN breakpoints indicated below, may exhibit a slight power steering shudder condition noted during static or low speed turning maneuvers. This condition may be perceived as a disturbance felt and heard by the vehicle operator through the body structure and steering wheel.

VIN Breakpoints

Fairfax MF235638

Cause: A combination of power steering pump pressure pulses and engine firing frequency generating a disturbance transmitted through the body structure.

Correction: Replace the existing power steering inlet (pressure) hose and pipe assembly with new assembly noted below by model year, with internal tuning cable and high expansion hose material.
