Fuel Gauge Sender: Service and Repair

In-tank Electric Fuel Pump.:

Fuel Gage Sending Unit Connections.:

Fuel System Components.:

NOTE: The fuel pump [52] is located on top of the tank. The fuel sender [54] is installed on the bottom of the tank. See diagram for details.

REMOVAL:

1. Before servicing the fuel pump the fuel system pressure must be relieved, see MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Drain the fuel tank.
4. Remove gauge sending unit [55] electrical connectors.
5. Remove hose clamp and fuel return line.
6. Remove gauge sending unit [55].
7. Remove hose clamp and hose from underside of sending unit.


NOTE: Inspect the attaching hoses for any signs of deterioration. Replace damaged or deteriorated parts.



INSTALLATION:

1. Install clamp and hose to underside of sending unit [55].
2. Install the fuel gauge sending unit [55].

NOTE: Use new bolts, new aluminum washers, and new gasket.

3. Install hose clamp and fuel return line [49].
4. Reinstall the fuel gauge sending unit connectors.
5. Refill fuel tank.
6. Reinstall battery cable.
