Subject: WINDNOISE AT REAR OF FRONT DOOR FRAME (SEAL GLASS RUN CHANNEL TO DOOR FRAME)

Models

Affected: 1990 6000 MODELS

Some early 1990 6000 models may exhibit windnoise conditions at the rear upper corner of the front door frame. The condition may be due to the glass run channel run being sealed to the door frame at the upper seat belt attaching point, and may be repaired by using the following procedure:

1. Lower door glass to full down position.
2. Using a heat gun, lightly heat the outer portion of the seat belt upper attachment cover. Heat will reduce the possibility of retainer pin breakage during removal.
3. Remove the outer cover by pulling forward (See Figure 1).
4. Inject black silicone rubber (3M # 08662, American/Dominion Sure Seal # CDB or LZB, Permatex # 16C or 16B, or equivalent) between the inboard edge of the run channel and the seat belt attaching bracket until slight squeeze out is seen (See Figure 2).
5. Carefully pull upper portion of run channel out of upper frame, inject material between frame and run channel at rear corner and reinstall channel into frame (See Figure 3).
6. Apply a small bead of material between the run channel and door frame at rear portion of door frame from the seat belt bracket downward to the belt line. (See Figure 4).
7. Raise and lower door glass to insure proper operation.
8. Immediately clean up any squeeze out with a cloth.
9. Reinstall outer cover of upper seat belt attachment.
