Subject: DRIVER/INFORMATION CENTER DISPLAY (REPLACE CONTROL MODULE)
Models
Affected: 1990 BONNEVILLE SSE MODEL
The following conditions have been noted on the subject vehicles from start of 1990 production through VIN L1236770.
1. Expired service reminders will display correctly on initial expiration of service mileage, however, on subsequent ignition cycles may not display. This condition is due to the service reminders not being properly stored in the non-volatile memory (NVM) before the system is powered down. This condition may change once the vehicle has been driven approximately 10 miles. After that distance the reminders may display again.
2. A lamp fault indication (turn signal, low beam or taillamp) may be displayed when no fault is actually present. This condition will occur only after a true lamp fault has once occurred. After a true lamp fault occurs, that fault plus the false faults will display. The false fault condition may also change after the vehicle is driven approximately 10 miles.
3. A lamp fault indicator (turn signal, low beam or taillamp) may be incorrectly cleared when an actual fault is present. This condition will occur only when the switch to the lamp shown as a problem is in the "OFF" position. When the lamp switch is in the "ON" position, the display will function correctly.
To correct any of these conditions, the driver information display control module should be replaced using Part Number 16149482 following procedure in Section 8C of the Chassis Service Manual.
