Compressor Replacement

Compressor Mounting - 2.3L (VIN D & VIN A):




REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Drive belt.

WARNING: To avoid personal injury when rotating the serpentine belt tensioner, use a tight fitting 13 mm wrench that is at least 61 cm (24") long. This operation can be done using available tool J-37059 (or equivalent).

3. Discharge A/C system.


NOTE: Steps 4 and 5 are only necessary the first time the compressor is removed.

4. Oil filter.
5. With 7 mm socket remove the stud in the back of the compressor. The stud was only necessary for assembly line purposes. Discard the stud.
6. Compressor/condenser hose assembly and discard O-ring seals.
7. Pressure switch and clutch connectors from compressor.
8. Rear compressor bracket to compressor mounting bolt.
9. Hoist vehicle.
10. Right lower splash shield.
11. 3 front compressor mounting bolts.
12. Remove compressor down and out the bottom.

CAUTION: If replacing the compressor see "Refrigerant Oil Distribution."


INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Compressor and 3 front mounting bolts.
2. Right lower splash shield.
3. Lower vehicle.
4. Lower rear compressor bracket to compressor bolt.

NOTE: It is not necessary to reinstall stud.

5. Pressure switch and clutch connector.
6. Compressor/condenser hose assembly using new O-ring seals.
7. Oil filter.
8. Drive belt.

9. Negative battery cable.
10. Evacuate, charge and leak test A/C system.
11. Check system operation.

INSPECT
^ Start engine, inspect for engine oil leaks, add oil if required.
