Door Locks: Description and Operation

Lock Assembly:

All styles use the fork bolt lock design which includes a safety interlock feature. The door is secured in a closed position when the door lock fork bolt engages the striker bolt. Doors can be locked from the inside by depressing the door inside locking knob. All doors can be locked from the outside by simply depressing the inside locking knob and closing the door. The front doors can also be locked by using the oval headed key. The door lock assembly also has an integral switch that controls the safety belt retractor solenoid and the dome lamps when the door is opened. The integral switch is only serviced with the lock assembly.
