Fuel Pump: Description and Operation

Fuel Pump And Sender (Typical):

PURPOSE:
To supply fuel to the fuel injectors.

OPERATION:
The fuel pump is a turbine type, low pressure electric pump, mounted on the fuel level sender assembly in the fuel tank. The fuel pump delivers pressurized fuel (from 4 to 13 P.S.I.) from the pump through an in-line filter to the TBI unit and injectors. Excess fuel is bled off after the injectors by the fuel pressure regulator mounted in the throttle body. Excess fuel is then returned to the fuel tank through the fuel return line.
