Models 1990-91 GRAND AM MODELS
Affected: WITH 2.5L ENGINE
Condition: Some 1990-91 Grand Am models may emit a sulfur odor (rotten egg smell).
Cause: The vehicle emits a sulfur odor due to a combination of high sulfur level in the fuel and the particular driving schedule of the vehicle involved.
Correction: Replace the existing (Beaded) catalytic converter. The monolith converter utilizes technology that cannot be applied to the beaded converter to reduce the emission of Hydrogen Sulfide gas, the source of the sulfur smell. Refer to "Parts Information" below for new part number.

Parts Information: P/N 25144088 - Monolith catalytic converter
Parts are expected to be available on January 6, 1992. In case of limited inventory, parts will be placed on 400 Control to waive VIP surcharges. Only verifiable emergency VIP orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. However, the part will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense and all other order types will be placed on backorder until the 400 control is removed.
