Subject: FRONT DOOR POWER LOCKS WILL NOT UNLOCK (REINSTALL SCREW TO DOOR ARM REST ADDING SHIMS)
Models
Affected: 1990 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX
Condition:
Owners of a few 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix sedans with the power locks may comment they cannot unlock the front doors.
Cause:
This may be caused by a trim screw used to retain the door armrest which is too long and contacts the lock actuator preventing it from unlocking.
The screw is located below and towards the rear of the door trim armrest. (See Illustration)
1. Remove screw and actuate the lock and unlock switch to ensure proper operation of the system.
2. Add shims (flat washers) to screw (approximately 1/4") before reinstalling.
3. After screw has been reinstalled, check operation of power lock system.
