The following contains information on the proper installation procedure for the front bumper lower fascia as well as information on how to correct two conditions which may occur on some 1989 and early 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo models. The procedures involving the potential conditions have specific labor times and operations associated with them.

Note: Before performing either of the procedures, inspect the front bumper fascia. (See Figure 1)

PROPER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE:

2. Remove bolts (1) and (2) from bottom of front bumper fascia. (See Figure 1)

3. Remove bolts (3) from bottom of lower air baffle.

4. Position and loosely assemble front bumper lower fascia to front bumper fascia with bolts (1) and (2).

5. Loosely assemble front bumper lower fascia to lower air baffle with bolts (3).

CONDITION: 2. Some 1989 and early 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix turbo models may exhibit a gapping condition between front bumper lower fascia and front bumper fascia.

CORRECTION:

1. Raise vehicle.

2. Inspect front bumper lower fascia for location of gaps to the front bumper fascia. Mark the center location of the gaps on the bottom surface of the front bumper lower fascia attachment flange.

3. Using a 1-1/4" O.D. x 3/8" I.D. washer as a hole locator, position the washer on the marked location then mark center hole using a 3/8" (9.5 mm) drill bit.

4. Drill holes through front bumper lower fascia attachment flange and front bumper fascia where marked for washer center hole using a 3/8" (9.5 mm) drill bit.

5. Install a 3/8" x 1" bolt and appropriate nut at the hole location.

IMPORTANT: Use a 3/8" x 1 1/4" washer on either side of the fascia material in order to spread the bolt load and avoid damage to the fascia material.

6. Repeat for opposite side of vehicle if necessary.
